About NOSGR
We are seriously and madly in love with German Shepherds.
New Orleans German Shepherd Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue originally founded in 2004. We are a German Shepherd Dog breed-specific rescue in the Greater New Orleans area dedicated to finding loving and caring homes for these magnificent dogs that have been neglected and left behind.
Our Mission
New Orleans German Shepherd Rescue is dedicated to the rescue and welfare of German Shepherd Dogs in the Greater New Orleans area. Our mission is to place unwanted, abandoned, or neglected GSDs into safe and caring foster homes where they can become healthy and learn how to live in a home again before being carefully matched with their new loving and devoted families.
Our GSDs largely come to us via local shelters after their stray holds are complete and no one has come forward to claim them. Once in our care, we strive to give them the medical care and the emotional and caring support they need to become whole and healthy again. They are placed with foster families who align with our values and care for the dogs as if they were their own.
What We Do
Our rescue is 100% volunteer-based, meaning none of our members or volunteers are paid for this often heartbreaking and always hard work. We work closely with local veterinarians, certified trainers, and other animal welfare organizations to ensure that our dogs receive the best possible care and support. We cannot do this work without our volunteers, partners, and the generosity of our community.
