Founded in 2002, NOGSR is a small not-for-profit 501(c) 3 group dedicated to rescuing German shepherds in southeast Louisiana. Most of the dogs come from local shelters. Some come from owners who have requested our help in finding a new home for their pet. We strive to save as many German shepherds as we can and to educate the public about this magnificant breed.
Since Katrina, so many dedicated German shepherd lovers helped with the rescue effort here in New Orleans. They came from every state and many different coutries and they worked tirelessly to save hundreds of German shepherds. Now it is time for us locals to jump in and help the lastest wave of homeless German shepherds. Katrina is gone, but her aftermath still plagues German shepherds in our area. Strays are still being found and dogs are being abandoned at shelters because their owners can't keep them. This could be due to a housing or job situation that was brought on by Katrina.
Thank you everyone across the country who helped save so many German shepherds after Katrina. A special thanks goes out to Diane Roberts (Tampa Bay German Shepherd Rescue, Rebecca Kaase and(Northern Louisiana German Shepherd Rescue.
