Caring for a German shepherd is a big responsibility, and one that we do not take lightly. We have invested a lot of time, money and love in these dogs and want to make sure they go to the best home. If you are interested in one of our dogs, you must fill out an Adoption Application first and once that is approved, we will conduct a home visit before we have you meet any of our adoptable dogs. A personal visit helps us to find best match for you. We do not adopt into homes where the dog will be left outside. German shepherd are social animals who thrive on companionship. Although some rescue groups may be ok with leaving a dog outside while you are at work, we are not. Unless we know our rescued GSD has lived with children or has been in a foster home with children, we will not place one of our dogs into a home with young children.
Our adoption fee for an adult dog is $250.00, $300 for a puppy and $200.00 for a GSD over seven years old. All dogs will have received annual vaccinations, be either spayed or neutered, tested and/or treated for heartworms and micro-chipped. While the fee might seem high for a rescue, it helps offset our costs of providing veterinary care, food, medication, transport and more while the dog is in our care. Just recently, we rescued three dogs that needed extensive veterinary care that will run over $1,000 for each dog. Heartworm treatment alone costs $650 minimum per dog and most of the dogs we rescue are heartworm positive. If you would like to sponsor a dog’s heartworm treatment, please let us know!
We would be happy to hear from you, especially if you have any questions about our organization or would like to volunteer. Contact Toby Burroughs at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please keep in mind that our volunteers work full-time in addition to doing rescue so please be patient with us. We will return your email as soon as possible. Thanks!
